FLOOD WATCH- For the entire North Bay MNRF District including the following watersheds: Lake Temiskaming/Ottawa River, Matabitchuan River, Montreal River, Mattawa River, Sturgeon/Nipissing/Upper French River, South River, Wasi River and the Pickerel River Watersheds.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Description of Weather System

There is weather system that will move across the district on Friday and will remain through the weekend. Rain is forecasted to produce 25-50mm of rain over this period. This may cause lake and river flows to increase while the water moves through the system as well as further increase runoff from previously received precipitation.

Description of Current Conditions

Water levels and flows in the North Bay District are expected to remain elevated through the coming weekend and into next week from precipitation and runoff received earlier in the week. Forecasted precipitation will contribute to, or maintain existing high water levels on area watersheds. The forecasted rain will augment stream flows and levels and may result in continually high water conditions and possible flooding in streams that are already high due to spring melt conditions and vulnerable areas.

The storage capacity of Lake Nipissing and on areas of the Ottawa River, including Lake Temiskaming is limited given its current high level and what may result in higher than normal water levels from forecasted precipitation.

There is a potential risk of Lake Nipissing and the Upper French River reaching the maximum Non-Damage water level of 196.22m by the weekend or early next week.

There is also a potential risk for Lake Temiskaming to reach its maximum operating level of 179.56 by the weekend.

Municipalities, Townships and residents along the Sturgeon River/Lake Nipissing/Upper French River watershed, and Municipalities, Townships and residents that border Lake Temiskaming and the Ottawa River are encouraged to prepare for the potential high water levels.

This potential is subject to change as forecasts and current conditions become available

A close watch on local forecasts and conditions is recommended.
