TOWNSHIP OF NIPISSING

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

A regular meeting of the Township of Nipissing Council was held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.

Present: Mayor Pat Haufe and Councillors Tom Butler, Dougal Culham, Tom Piper and Liz Smith.

Staff and visitors present: Dave Yemm, Kris Croskery-Hodgins and Charles Barton.

Guests: Anna Gibson-Olajos, Executive Director; Sheila Latour, Board President; and Roger George, Board Member from the Powassan and Area Family Health Team.

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.

Disclosure of pecuniary interest: Councillor Tom Butler and Councillor Liz Smith.

Presentation: Powassan and Area Family Health Team update on services, programs and improvements provided by Anna Gibson-Olajos.

R2014-17 T. Butler, D. Culham: That the minutes of the meeting held January 7, 2014 be adopted as published. Carried.

Councillor Tom Butler declared a Pecuniary Interest as his spouse is employed by the Township of Nipissing.

R2014-18 L. Smith, T. Piper: That we pass By-Law Number 2014-05, being a By-law to adopt a revised pay equity plan for the Township of Nipissing.
Read a first, second and third time and passed this 21st day of January, 2014. Carried.

By-Law Number 2014-06, being a By-law to establish the remuneration and payment of expenses to members of Council was deferred to the next meeting of Council.

Councillor Tom Butler declared a Pecuniary Interest as his spouse is employed by the Township of Nipissing.

R2014-19 T. Piper, L. Smith: That we pass By-Law Number 2014-07, being a By-law to amend the Remuneration Schedule in the Township of Nipissing Pay Equity Plan.
Read a first, second and third time and passed this 21st day of January, 2014. Carried.

The Draft January Newsletter was discussed by Council and approved for circulation.

R2014-20 D. Culham, T. Butler: That we accept the correspondence as presented. Carried.

Councillor Liz Smith declared pecuniary interest as her employer is listed in the accounts.

R2014-21 T. Butler, D. Culham: That the statement of accounts dated: January 10, 16 and 21, 2014, totaling $115,182.38, be approved. Carried.

R2014-22 L. Smith, T. Piper: That we authorize the Deputy Fire Chief and 3 members of the Township of Nipissing Fire Department to attend the 2014 Northeastern Fire Education Conference. Carried.

R2014-23 T. Butler, D. Culham: That we approve the recommendation from the Fire Chief and CAO-Clerk for body modifications to the rapid response vehicle at a cost of $6,700 plus HST. Carried.

R2014-24 D. Culham, T. Butler: That we authorize Councillor Smith and the Treasurer-Deputy Clerk to attend the 2014 AMO Conference in London, Ontario. Carried.

R2014-25 T. Piper, L. Smith: That we accept Helen Barber’s retirement from the Nipissing Township Museum Board;
And that we appoint Jean Siple as a member of the Nipissing Township Museum Board. Carried.

R2014 -26 D. Culham, T. Butler: That we send a letter to the City of North Bay in support of their efforts to attract West Jet’s Encore Services to North Bay. Carried.

R2014-27 L. Smith, T. Piper: That we pass By-Law No. 2014-08, being a by-law to confirm the proceedings of Council at its meeting held on January 21, 2014. Read the first, second and third time and passed this 21st day of January, 2014. Carried.

R2014- 28 T. Butler, D. Culham: That the meeting be adjourned. Time: 8:37 p.m. Next regular meeting February 11, 2014. Carried.
