A regular meeting of the Township of Nipissing Council was held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.

Present: Mayor Pat Haufe and Councillors Tom Butler, Tom Piper and Liz Smith.

Staff and visitors present: Joanna Miles; Pat Moore; Mike Moore; Bruce Moore; Dave Yemm; John-Paul Negrinotti; Kris Croskery-Hodgins and Charles Barton.

Regrets: Councillor Dougal Culham.

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.

Presentation by Joanna Miles, Superior Propane on the possibility of supplying propane to the Township of Nipissing.

R2014-74 L. Smith, T. Piper: That the minutes of the meeting held March 25, 2014 be adopted as published. Carried.

R2014-75 T. Butler, L. Smith: That the minutes of the closed session meeting held March 25, 2014 be adopted. Carried.

Councillor Liz Smith declared a Conflict of Interest for the following topic as she is employed by Canada Post. Councillor Smith left the Council table for the discussion.

Correspondence received from Liz Shrum, Commanda Postmaster, was read aloud by Mayor Haufe. Discussion regarding the request for action on this matter took place. An agreement was reached by Council that a letter regarding these concerns shall be written and forwarded to Canada Post.

Councillor Smith returned to the Council table.

R2014-76 T. Piper, L. Smith: WHEREAS the Board of Health for the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit would like to proceed with the option to purchase property to address the accommodation issue, and
WHEREAS Consent of councils from the majority of municipalities within the health unit service area is required,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the Township of Nipissing supports the Board of Health for the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit in proceeding with the purchase of property. Carried.

The Draft Spring Newsletter was presented and discussed. Minor adjustments were suggested and the document was approved for circulation.

R2014-77 T. Butler, T. Piper: That we accept the correspondence as presented. Carried.

Councillor Liz Smith declared pecuniary interest as her employer is listed in the accounts.

R2014-78 T. Piper, T. Butler: That the statement of accounts dated: March 27 and April 8, 2014, totaling $67,076.73, be approved. Carried.

R2014-79 L. Smith, T. Piper: That we donate $100 to the Trout Creek Agricultural Society 2014 Fall Fair. Carried.

Review of concerns being presented to MPP Vic Fedeli on April 11, 2014 took place. Items of interest include the maintenance of Highway 654 and the impacts of recent fishing changes on the tourism industry.

R2014-80 T. Butler, L. Smith: That we pass By-Law No. 2014-19, being a by-law to confirm the proceedings of Council at its meeting held on April 8, 2014. Read the first, second and third time and passed this 8th day of April, 2014. Carried.

R2014-81 L. Smith, T. Piper: That the meeting be adjourned. Time: 7:27 p.m. Next regular meeting April 22, 2014. Carried.
