Recycling Transition – Beginning October 1, 2025

October 1, 2025

Starting on October 1, 2025 the Township of Nipissing will transition to an enhanced recycling system managed by Circular Materials. This is a Province wide initiative that shifts the responsibility and control for collecting and processing recyclable materials from the Township to the producers. Blue Box Materials are in the Circular Materials Program only. This includes cardboard, plastics, tin, aluminum and glass.

What does this mean? Recycling will be sorted into 2 Streams.

Stream 1: Fibre

Newspapers, Gift Wrap, Paper, Magazines, Cereal Boxes, Egg Cartons, paper products and paper packaging including paper laminates, kraft paper carry-out bags, kraft paper non-laminated, corrugated cardboard and boxboard and other paper packaging.

Stream 2: Containers

Steel & Aluminum, including cans, numbered plastic containers, Milk Cartons, glass jars and bottles with the lid off Plastic Film (grocery and retail bags, cereal liners, plastic wrappers from cans & bottles, bubble wrap, food storage bags, pellet bags, dry cleaning bags), Plastic packaging, metal packaging, glass packaging and gable top containers and aseptic containers.

Please remember to rinse all recyclables completely of food and residue. Dirty recycling increases the risk of contamination and the cost of processing.
